Vynova Wilhelmshaven – Pipe marking

Pipe marking according to DIN2403

Blomsma Signs & Safety GmbH has realized a pipe marking project for an ethylene factory for Vynova Wilhelmshaven. The principles used were in line with legislation and regulations, ASR A1-3, TRGS 201 and European Directives EU/92/58 EEG and 2014/27/EU. DIN2403, which describes aspects such as the colour, use of text and positioning, was the main guide for the practical composition of the markings.

Vynova Wilhelmshaven has one of Europe’s biggest production plants for suspension PVC (S-PVC). Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) is also produced there. With over 360 staff and more than 35 years of history behind it, Vynova can be counted among the most prominent employers in the region.

The project started in 2017 when the transport of chemicals through the pipelines was mapped out. That data was used to draw up a list of media to which information from the safety data sheets was added. That gave a starting point for creating the layouts and the pipe marking was then produced as per the 3M™ MCS™ (Matched Component System). Under the guidance of our project engineer, the coding for the ethylene plant was done and the pipe markings were then applied by our 3M™ Certified Safety Sign Installers™.

The positioning of the pipe markings was done very carefully, taking account of the visibility aspect, alignment, dimensions of the markings and eyeline heights.
