Blomsma safety signs for new Botlek bridge

Geplaatst op 8 May 2015

Botlek bridge – Each object has its challenges in terms of safety and evacuation.

A-Lanes – a joint venture between Ballast Nedam, John Laing, Strabag and Strukton – is currently building the new Botlek bridge, where these challenges are present.

Blomsma Signs & Safety has been contracted to implement a clear and transparent plan for the safety signage for the new Botlek bridge. The project includes the completion of legally required safety signs such as marking escape routes, fire-fighting and rescue equipment and general hazards, prohibition and mandatory actions.

Legal requirements are the key-principles for this unique project, but also quality and performance of the various safety signs. Indoor signs must have sufficient phosphorescent (afterglow) properties, but also retro-reflective outdoor signs must withstand the salty environment.

Our knowledge in the field of legal regulations, relevant standards and materials guarantees a correct and complete solution in the area of safety signs.

New Botlek Bridge

The current Botlek Bridge will be replaced by a new lifting bridge across the Oude Maas, eliminating a major shipping bottleneck in the region. The new Botlek Bridge features two bridge passages – each around 90 metres wide – and will rise some 14 metres above water level. Its openings are twice as high as those of the current bridge, meaning that it can allow larger vessels to pass under it without impeding road traffic. In addition, its two sections will allow ships coming from opposite directions to pass simultaneously. When completed, the new Botlek Bridge, which lifts to a maximum height of 45 metres, will be one of the largest moveable bridges in the world.
