CoolBlue – Evacuation Plans

Evacuation Plans CoolBlue

To really make a difference for customers and stand out in the market, CoolBlue offers customer-centric product journeys instead of just competing on picture, price, button. And everything with a smile of course. Similarly, the safety of visitors and employees in the stores and distribution centers is thought through in detail. The presence of comprehensible evacuation plans is part of this. Blomsma Signs & Safety is responsible for the realization of the evacuation plans for the CoolBlue locations.

Starting points for the evacuation plans

For CoolBlue it is important that the evacuation plans seamlessly match the atmosphere and layout of the stores. Personalized change frames in the familiar bright blue color are used. The information and comprehensibility of the evacuation plans must remain guaranteed. By simplifying the graphics, increasing symbolism and illustrations, the floor plans become functional and aesthetic at the same time.

The starting points for the implementation of evacuation plans are (inter)national standards.

  • NEN 1414-1 : Evacuation plans and accessibility maps
  • ISO 23601:2020 : Safety signs – Signs for escape and evacuation.

The use of (inter)national standards promotes comprehensibility through a uniform use of, among other things, safety symbols and safety colors used.

Evacuation plans for Coolblue provided by Blomsma Signs & Safety

“There is a need to standardize a system of communicating escape routes in facilities that relies as little as possible on the use of words to achieve understanding. Continued growth in international trade, travel and mobility of labour requires a common method of conveying this important safety information to the occupants of facilities.” – ISO 23610:2019

Tailored to the surroundings

Evacuation plans in stores differ from those posted in warehouses and distribution centers. Where there is no relevant escape route from the retail environment through non-public areas, these areas are restricted or ‘gridded’. This prevents unwanted building layout information from being communicated in public areas. Larger formats are used in warehouses and distribution centers to promote visibility and legibility.

From quick updates to full implementation

The offices, stores and operational areas are expanded or rearranged on a regular basis. From the CoolBlue project teams we receive requests to update the floor plans. Based on the supplied data, the evacuation plans are adjusted digitally as soon as possible and new inlays and lists are sent to the location. For new locations, we take care of the entire process, from inventory, planning of positions, drawing and installation on site. We seamlessly fit in with the planning of the furnishing of the objects, all with a smile!
